The new phone by Google has the latest everything and it is
making impression on YouTube like any new phone with a big ad campaign would
do. I am not convinced that the phone will get the same attraction as the
iPhone since it is aimed at the audience of Apple. I feel that nothing in terms
of marketing campaign could compete with Apple. Apple has been around longer
than everyone else in the business and its sole purpose is to sell stuff.
Google is known to be the company that provides services for Ad
revenue. For the past forever, Google has been for free. In the past ten years.
In the past few years, Google began to try to take money from the consumer. For
the most part, people feel that they will get the best of Google for free. The
best of Google is mail, web browser, map, YouTube, Android, and everything in
between. After building their empire on giving free services and not charging
money, they really want to change It and become competitive with the ultimate
enemy; Apple.
Apple in the other handed has built their empire on making fancy
technology for higher end consumer. Just like Nike, the consumer target becomes
bigger when the high end, expensive product, becomes the norm. Apple is not
like the NBA, they are not constantly trying to show that they bettering the
planet. They are more like Nike, they are out there to make money. If you are
not Apple product consumer, you would not able to enter the exclusive world the
Apple Store and apple service.
Google in the other hand is built on attracting everyone they
could. Anyone could make Google account and link into the Google world. Anyone
could tap into the Google Cloud. The objective is getting everyone to getting
involved. The problem is that people intended to think something to be free and
not worth anything. In there lies the problem. The problem as pointed out is
that an object becomes assimilated something that the original maker did not
want to assimilate. The only way for Google to become a provider that makes
money from the consumer is through making something like a device.
One of the first three devices that I know that Google made are
Nexus, power by everyone, Chromecast, outdone by everyone else, and Glass, too
expensive for everyone and little bit too early in the game. Nexus is the
device that was not made Google but had the Google logo on it. It was the first
time that I saw the Google Logo in the physical world; side note, As small business
manager, I get Google AdSense mail all of the time. The only problem with the
Nexus is that it was something else.
Google sold me of the idea that they had everything to do with Google
Nexus devices. That they worked on everything inside the phone from design
point view. For me, it felt like Nexus was made by Google and assembled by the
company that had the second logo. I did not really care about the second logo.
I cared about the Nexus Logo. The thing that I liked about the Nexus brand in
the beginning making device that were powerful, but no high end, that everyone
else could afforded. It felt like that they making good quality phone for
everyone else. The problem with being affordable in this world is that makes
not the best choice. The same way Nike is considered the best choice for
Basketball even though AND1 shoe is almost the same quality but with lower
price tag. Year after year, Google felt that Nexus phone needs to compete with Google
biggest company that it envy; Apple. Last year, the Nexus phone was about the
same price as Apple.
2016 is the year that Google felt that it
was more Adidas than anything. So, it made the highest specs that it could get
its hand on. The Pixel phone competes with other device in terms of specs. The
design of phone have all reached the same image that it is hard to distinct one
phone from the other expect for the logo. It seems that the only market that is
worth reaching for the high specs. Google was suppose the company for everyone
but it seems that you need to wear tuxedo to make into the party.
